Mezzanine Floors Leeds

Mezzanine Floor Installations

Available space is a factor to consider when running any type of business. There always has to be space for people to work and navigate for health and safety reasons, and for items to be placed or stored. When there’s not enough space in a commercial property, this can cause disruptions, lower efficiency and safety risk in the workplace, and may even lower morale.

The business may find itself having to rent out additional space elsewhere, or even finding a new building to move to entirely. This is complicated, time draining, causes massive disruption to your business, and most of all, is costly.

Here at Greenoaks Ltd, we seek to ease workplace logistics by supplying and installing a range of products:

What are Mezzanine Floors?

“Mezzanine floors” may sound like some sort of flooring, but it’s not referring to the surface beneath your feet. It refers to the levels in a building. The mezzanine makes use of space overhead to create another storey, essentially creating a “floor between floors”.

There are multiple different uses for mezzanine floors, the most common being:

Storage–  You can use your mezzanine for storage, especially when fitted out with aisles of shelving

Production space – boost production for your Leeds business without having to extend or move.

Office space – Entire offices have been built on a mezzanine, with clever design allowing full use of the available space.

Furthermore, as long as your overhead space allows it, you can build multi-tier mezzanines.

Some conditions have to be met for these floors that are specific to the site. For example, the floor of your site has to be solid and take the pressure of the construction, as well as the ceiling at least being 14 feet high.

Greenoaks can offer you a professionally made mezzanine in Leeds, installed by passionate specialists, at cost-effective options. A mezzanine will add a modern and aesthetically pleasing addition to a workplace.

How much are Mezzanine Floors?

The cost of your mezzanine floor in Leeds will be dependent on your requirements. The basic floor structure, consisting of beams and brackets, will have its additional costs, not to mention railings and staircases.

How many additional features your mezzanine requires is dictated by Building Control, who are responsible for enforcing safety regulations within. Some of the additional factors to take into account which will have an impact on cost include:

Staircases – At least one staircase is needed to access the mezzanine, as I’m sure you expected, but depending on the distance from your fire exit, more may be required.

Fire Protection – The structures that fall under fire protection are suspended ceilings, column cases and fascia. These are required when the mezzanine’s dimensions exceed certain parameters set by building control. If the mezzanine is built above 50% of the overall room length, is wider than 20 metres in length, or has people working permanently directly underneath or above the floor, you will be required to carry out the construction of these additional structures.

Electrical Works – The mandatory items under this category are lighting, emergency lighting and smoke detection. They will be constructed into the underside of the mezzanine. Lighting is also required on stairs, as well as warnings not to run and building alarms. The more work beneath the floor, the more lights will be installed.
