Four questions to ask when choosing warehouse management software

Increasing the efficiency of your warehouse can be helped by the right choice of software. When planning a warehouse, the first consideration is the layout and design of the warehouse shelving system, so that all items can be easily stored and accessed. Software can then organise the process of goods coming into the warehouse and out again.
When choosing software, there are a number of questions to ask, and here are four of the most important:

Is the software easy to use?
The software program may be cleverly designed but if it is not easy to use, mistakes can easily be made through input errors.
Will the software manage all the processes? There are six basic processes that a warehouse uses and the software should help in all these areas: receiving goods, putting goods on shelves, picking orders, dispatching, stock audits and moving items.
Is the software flexible? The software you use may be fine now, but can it deal with your business expanding? If you invest in technology such as RF scanners, label printers and new scales, can the software link to this technology?
Does the software have a good reputation? Talk to organisations currently using the software you are considering buying. What is their experience and would they recommend the software? Is the software regularly updated in response to requests from customers to add features?
There are many factors that create an efficient system, including the warehouse shelving design, employee’s performance, labelling goods, quality of pallet racking and the warehouse management software.
